The inquiry brought out the following facts
- A Ford van containing 2 RASC drivers in the front and Major J Gurdon, a CSM and 2 Other Ranks including Goddard behind
- at 11.30am they were passing the junction of Dorset St and Frederick St at "a moderate pace"
- there were expolsions and a crash of glass
- L/Cpl Goddard fell down dead, the CSM and the two drivers were wounded.
- The man driving the van was able to get back to barracks even though he was wounded in both legs
- Major Gurdon fired 2 or 3 revolver shots after a man he saw running away, but did not think that he hit the man
British soldiers died in Ireland
