The inquiry brought out the following facts

A Ford van containing 2 RASC drivers in the front and Major J Gurdon, a CSM and 2 Other Ranks including Goddard behind
at 11.30am they were passing the junction of Dorset St and Frederick St at "a moderate pace"
there were expolsions and a crash of glass
L/Cpl Goddard fell down dead, the CSM and the two drivers were wounded.
The man driving the van was able to get back to barracks even though he was wounded in both legs
Major Gurdon fired 2 or 3 revolver shots after a man he saw running away, but did not think that he hit the man
