Thomastown Ambush - 28 Oct 1920

- The men (mixed group of Northants & RE) were on the way from Templemore to the rifle range at Tipp Town when they were ambushed.
- Their military lorry was attacked about 10am between Kilfeakle and Thomastown on 28 Oct 1920
- The IRA were expecting an RIC tender but the soldiers (from the Northhamptonshire Regiment) came unexpectedly.
- 3 men were killed and 6 wounded including Lt Parker RE

Cpl H Goodes was awarded a parchment certificate for his gallant conduct on the 28th October 1920. A good fight was put up by the party, driving off the rebels but three men were killed & six wounded.
- The following soldiers were wounded in the ambush. Lt.J.Parker-RE and from the 1st Northamptonshire: Pte A.Needle,Pte W.Hart,Pte H.Sturkins
- Some reports state the IRA were beaten back but the IRA(John O' Brien WS) states that they withdrew as another military lorry was approaching.
