1920 Oct 8. died age 17. Son of Mr. and Mrs. F. Squibb, of Wroxall Farm Cottage, Wroxall, Isle of Wight.
He was travelling in the back of a military lorry in Cork, when it was bombed
- It was about 9am at the corner of Cove St and Barrack St in Cork
- There were 6 soldiers in the lorry - 2 of them in the front seats. The only NCO was a Lance Corporal
- 4 bombs were thrown, one landed in the lorry
- 1 soldier was killed (Squibb) and 3 others wounded
- 1 bomb failed to explode
- The other 2 bombs exploded in the street, wounding 2 men and 1 girl
- The soldiers fired about 20 rounds in the direction of the throwers of the bombs, without any sucess
- There was a court martial of Joseph Murphy for Squibb's murder
1920 Oct 12 Buried in the Chapelyard of the Baptist Chapel, Niton, Isle of Wight
