1914 Sept 2 Enlisted as 13255 Private John Smith, 12th (Service) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment (from regimental number). 12th (Service) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment was formed at Chester in Sept 1914 as part of K3 and attached as Army Troops to 22nd Division.

1914 Dec Moved to Seaford and was in billets in Eastbourne.

1915 Feb transferred to 66th Brigade in same Division.

1915 June Moved to Aldershot

1915 Sept 6 landed at Boulogne with 12th (Service) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment 

1915 Sept 28 Battalion departed from Marseille for Salonika

1915 Nov 6 Arrived Salonika

12th (Service) Battalion, Cheshire Regiment Deployed to Salonika and engaged in various actions against the Bulgarian Army including;

1916 – 1917- 1918

1918 March 16 Transferred to as 533272 Private John Smith to the Labour Corps at the Base Depot, Salonika (from regimental number)

1918 Posted to 981 Area Employment Company, Labour Corps serving in Salonika

1918 Posted to 974 Area Employment Company, Labour Corps serving in Salonika

1918 Sept 30 Ended the war near Lake Doiran, Macedonia.

1919 Posted to the Base Depot, Salonika

1919 Mar 26 Discharged to Z Reserve from the Labour Corps

1919 Re-enlisted as 78256 Private John Smith, 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment

1920 Aug Re-numbered 4115965 Private John Smith, 1st Battalion Cheshire Regiment

1922 Jan 18. Killed when a Brick Kiln collapsed on him and Private Dean.
