Boy John Frederick Pettman, 6278775, 1st Bn The Buffs (East Kent Regiment)

1904 May 16. Born Margate, Isle of Thanet, Kent. Son of Athelstan Edward and Florence Louisa Pettman (née Castle) , of "Amhurst," St. John's Lane, New Romney. On 11 December 1915 his father Athelstan enlisted in the army at Ashford, Kent in The Buffs (East Kent Regiment).

1921 Feb 15. Accidentally killed at Castletownroche age 16. At the time of his tragic death he was stationed at Fermoy.

Buried at St Nicholas Churchyard, New Romney, Kent, England

At the time of his death John was stationed with his Battalion (1st Battalion, The Buffs, East Kent Regt. On the day of his impressive and well attended military funeral at New Romney, the town was literally brought to a standstill as a mark of respect for him.
