- The Lincolnshires commandeered a lorry and forced the civilian driver to convey them around the area.
- They were ambushed near Glencoole. A trench across the road forced the lorru and its accompanying car to stop
- Sgt Brackenbury, who was sitting in the front of the lorry beside the civilian driver, fell dead. Pte Staves also died
- 1 officer (Lt Penrick?, who was also in the front seat of the lorry) and 2 privates were wounded, and one RIC officer and 2 constables also wounded
- The soldiers got out of the lorry and returned fire, eventually they got thir Lewis gun operational, and the IRA withdrew.
