1921 Mar 19 died in Crossbarry Ambush . A coy, 1st batallion. Essex Regt records give that "his head was smashed in by a rifle butt". He was at first reported missing, but his body was later found at the battlefield.

His wife Florence, brought his body back to the UK. He was buried at the Manor Park cemetery in East London
