• The ration lorry containing 6 soldiers was ambushed at Ballydrohane, half way between Kanturk and Newmarket
• It was forced to stop by the simple expedient of pushing a farm cart into its path.
• The troops jumped out and started firing at the IRA ambushers, but were forced to surrender
• The IRA gathered up 9 rifles and a machine gun and made off.
• Cowin, the driver, died and 4 soldiers including an NCO, were wounded
• 
• Matt Flood was the IRA machine gunner in this engagement. He served with the MGC during WW1. It is ironic that the soldiers ambushed were members of the MGC!
