1921 Mar 6 Ambushed between Ballinrobe and Castlereagh
- A patrol commanded by Capt Chatfield was ambushed by the South Mayo Brigade Old IRA.
- The group consisted 2s, 4 Other Ranks and an RASC driver
- They were ambushed 1 mile north of Partry
- Although most of them were wounded in the initial firing, they managed to find enough cover beside the road to beat off the advancing IRA
- Capt. Chatfield MC was wounded as was Private Wardle and Corporal Bell was killed. 2 others including the RASC driver were slightly wounded
- Lt. Ibberson took over command of 'C' Company.
