1921 Jan 17 Enlisted 1st KO Royal Regt in London. He was a leather dresser

1922 Feb 28 Deserted British Army in Dublin. The Police Gazette gives his age as 20.5 years, indicating a birth around Nov 1901. According to Sean McGuinness (in Chidley's Irish pension application) , English born Charles Chidley had deserted from the British Army in early 1922 and joined the IRA, along with George Mines.

1922 Oct 19. captured serving with Irregulars near Rahugh, County Westmeath by National troops after Irregular’s ambushed a National Army flying column commanded by Brigadier Gallagher heading to Kilbeggan via Rahugh.  A Grennan, from Rahan, and James Kane from Daingan also captured.

He may have gone to Canada. George Mines arrives UK from Canada in 3 Oct 1952 of right age
